Hake is South Africa's everyday fish, and chakalaka is the relish every braai needs. Together they make a quick weeknight plate that feels like the weekend.
Ingredients
Chakalaka
- 1 tbspsunflower oil
- 1onion, finely chopped
- 2carrots, grated
- 1green pepper, diced
- 1green chilli, finely chopped(optional)
- 2 clovesgarlic, crushed
- 2 tspmild curry powder
- 2tomatoes, chopped
- 1 canbaked beans in tomato sauce (410g)
Hake
- 4skinless hake fillets (about 150g each)
- 1 tspsmoked paprika
- ½ tspsalt
- 1 tbspolive oil
To serve
- 1lemon, cut into wedges
- fresh parsley or coriander(optional)
